FAQs
Who are you?
The Friends of the South Norwalk Rail Trail are a group of Norwalk residents who all share a passion for bringing this trail to life.
What’s the current status?
We’re currently building a coalition of support for the trail, covering members of the public, elected officials and private land owners along the route. All conversations have been positive and we are hopeful we can begin fundraising in the middle of this year, with design work on a subset of the trail commencing by the year’s end.
How much will this cost? How will you fund it?
Getting engineering plans is the next milestone for us as an organization. Comparable costs from other trails put a price estimate at around $10 million for the entire project.
Given the current funding environment, we expect the majority of funding to come from private fundraising and state-level grants.
This sounds great. How can I help?
Please tell your friends, spread the word and help us build the coalition needed to build this! Some easy things you can do:
Follow us on Instagram
Contact your local council member and state reps telling them you’re excited about this project and would like them to support it!
I have ideas or feedback - how can I make my voice heard?
We want the trail to work for every local resident of South Norwalk. Getting feedback from all areas is crucial to this. There’s a few options:
Come to a community brainstorm: we will be holding community meetings in mid-2025 to brainstorm ideas for the trail. Follow us on Instagram to hear when the next is scheduled.
Talk to us: you can email us at info@sonorailtrail.org, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
